I have been really frustrated lately with my knees! I had surgery a few years ago on my right knee to fix a tear in my miniscus. It turned out to be a lot more damage then they had thought and the recovery was a few months on crutches. Everything was going great until I started to run after having Kambree. Then my left knee started to pop a lot and make a grinding noise. I am worried that I may need surgery again on this knee now. And just when you thought I would have learned my lesson I went running this weekend but I wore a brace on the knee that was bothering me. Now both knees are popping out of place and hurting. I am curious if any of my readers have bad knees from running, or also if it could be from all the extra weight I gained through the pregnancy. I really don't want to go to the doctor so I am open to any advice you have at hopefully fixing the poor things. Thanks :)
P.S. the picture I attached is where I wish I could go running! Maybe that's the problem the bad weather and lack of sun is effecting them.

Hi- I stumbled into your blog from my friend's sister in law's blog (Liz Kump), just so you know I am not just a random crazy person. ;)
I have seriously bad knees- and from running. The popping and grinding noise to me sounds like "runner's knee" which is close to what I have. It is very common in runner's.
Essentially, runners tend to have overdeveloped hamstrings, whilst their thighs and quadraceps tend to be underdeveloped, which creates an inbalance. With me, I also have really tight IT bands- which causes my knee cap to be pulled to the outside and out of where it's supposed to track- which causes my knees to grind bone on bone. They crack, pop and hurt like nothing else. Running on a knee with an issue like that will only damage it further. Specifically, I have petello-femural syndrome. They have given me lots of exercises and stretches to do to work on this, but I haven't been able to go back to running at all. I used to be alot heavier- at y highest, I was 233, and ran EVERY DAY. I never had a knee problem, until I was down in the 160's and got this problem- from long term running, and that's all it is. It's the long term effect of long time running without correcting the imbalance running does to your body. Don't keep running on it thinking that it's from your weight. You'll only do more damage to yourself and you DONT want to end up on my position.
I could totally be wrong, because I am in no way a doctor, or even close to it, BUT because of those symtoms, I really strongly reccomend you not jsut go to a doctor, but go to an orthopedist. You may need physical therapy to fix this. You really don't want to mess with your knees. You need them. You don't want this to escalate to chronic pain. I really think it's important you have this checked out by a professional- and not just a GP, they are not equipped to handle sports injuries like this. When I first went in, my GP told me I had arthritis. I emailed her later to get a referral for a second opinion and the orthopedist said that was not true at all. She had it all wrong- but the symptoms can look similar.
Anyway, start looking things up about "runner's knee" Here's a link to an article I was just reading earlier today about what PT steps you should be taking to fix this problem- very similiar to what my PT perscribed for me.

I hope this helps!
