Stubborn like my Grandma Major

I just adore this lady!

This is my Grandma Major. My dad's mom. She is such a hard worker, makes the best grilled cheese sandwiches, loves the show Survivor, adores her grandchildren and is also super stubborn. We always say that it is the German in her.

I am told by Jake often, how much I am like her and I finally realized it this weekend. I have been sick now for about 12 days. Everything started out as a cold and then on Thursday night last week I started getting a fever and just feeling miserable. Friday was busy because we had family pictures, hair appointments, and piano festivals to judge and play for. I had a fever all day and was asking for tissues while getting pictures to wipe down my face that was dripping sweat. Jake kept asking me if I needed to go to the doctor but I told him I was fine and just had a sinus infection. I get them often and I was hoping this one would go away on its own.

Friday night we went to bed early because Jake and I had signed up for a half marathon that would be the next morning. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to do it but I really felt I had to. It was Jake's first half and he has been wanting to do one ever since I did my first half 2 years ago. At the time I was pregnant with Asher, but I made him promise that he wouldn't run his first half without me. I didn't feel I could ever be happy with myself if I didn't live up to that promise and would be very upset that he got to do the race and I didn't.

I thought for sure I wouldn't be able to do it because 7 hours before race time I woke up in the middle of the night with a fever or 104. I was a little crazy telling Jake I didn't think I could go but was going to try. And sure enough that's what I did. I woke early. Ate my normal racing day food, drank an Extra Strength 5 hour energy that I picked up the day before to help me do it, and took off. It was a harder course with 4 big hills. I ran or I would say more "jogged" 11.5 of the 13.2 miles. It felt so good to be doing it! It felt so good to be outdoors and not sitting in bed coughing. Jake came back after he finished and ran the last mile with me. I started crying at the end because I was so happy I did it! And then I crashed to the ground exhausted and had a coughing attack. The man in charge of the event was concerned that I needed to get up and keep walking but all I wanted to do was go to sleep.

Later that day the fever went up again to 103 so I decided to go take care of the "sinus infection". Well an hour later after having some chest x rays I found out I have pneumonia on both sides of my lungs. I Thought the doctor would be mad that I ran but he was just excited to ask me all about it. How I felt while running? How I did? And to tell me how proud he was me. I just had to laugh.

My grandma called me later that night and I told her what I had done while being sick. She said, "Well I guess you did what you wanted to and put your mind to it. And there's nothing wrong with that!" I just love her so much! And feel lucky to have some of her stubbornness :)

After the race with my sweetie!

Also, Here are some of our family pictures. I love how they turned out. Kambree loved the real bunny she got to hold and can't stop talking about him.

Wow! You are made of super tough stuff! That is crazy that you were able to run and do all that you did while you were so sick! Way to go! I love your pictures too! Seth calls Asher 'bulldog' because of how he breathes! I thought it was funny. He is so handsome!
